ESPN TO TELEVISE ADVOCARE V100 INDEPENDENCE BOWL
THROUGH 2017
Shreveport, La. – AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl officials announced a new eight-year agreement with ESPN on Monday, which will guarantee that Shreveport’s postseason contest will be shown by the worldwide leader in sports through 2017.
"We are excited to continue one of our longest bowl relationships with our partners at the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl,” said Kurt Dargis, - Senior Manager, Programming & Acquisitions.
“The Bowl has provided many thrilling moments for college football fans since we started televising the game in 1992 and we expect many more over the next eight years,” said Dargis.
The 2010 AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl will be held on Monday, Dec. 27 at 4 p.m. CT at Independence Stadium and will be shown on ESPN2.
ESPN first televised the Independence Bowl in 1992, bringing Wake Forest’s 39-35 victory over Oregon to a nationwide audience, and the game has since become a fixture on ESPN’s “Bowl Week”. Last year’s game between Texas A&M and Georgia, won by the Bulldogs 44-20, earned the distinction of being the highest-rated and most-viewed bowl game ever televised on ESPN2 as 2,333,664 households tuned into the game.
“Our partnership with ESPN, which began in 1992, now extends through 2017 and helps us to achieve a level of stability that will allow us to grow moving forward,” said AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl Executive Director Missy Setters. As the 11th oldest bowl game in the country we are looking forward to new partnerships with the ACC and Mountain West and our continued relationship with ESPN.
“ESPN’s long-term commitment to televising the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl is evidence not only of the network’s belief in the game, but also in the bowl’s two new conference partners, the ACC and the Mountain West,” said 2010 Bowl Chair Jim Hagan. The bowl traditionally showcases our region to millions of television viewers who might otherwise be unfamiliar with our area.”
The 2009 game was also a sellout at 49,654. This marked the first sellout since 2003 when Arkansas defeated Missouri 27-14 with an announced attendance of 49,625.
The AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl will begin partnerships with two new conferences this year, as teams from the ACC and Mountain West Conference will meet in December at Independence Stadium. The agreement with the two conferences runs through 2013. AdvoCare also extended its title sponsorship of the Independence Bowl for 2010. Bowl officials also announced in January that the bowl has extended its partnership with its national radio partner, Sports USA, through 2013. The Independence Bowl has partnered with Sports USA since 2005, which marked the 30th anniversary of the game.
