Scam alert from Advocare

Please be aware of a fraudulent scheme currently circulating by email that involves an apparent attempt to purchase AdvoCare products. This type of cross-border scam is known as a “check overpayment scheme.” Here’s how it works:

The person being contacted (such as an AdvoCare Distributor) has a product for sale on the Internet and receives an email with subject lines like Product Enquiry or Toward Payment or Payment Delivery. For example, recent emails were received by AdvoCare Distributors from a "Sharon Smith" or others asking about purchasing products or to open a store.


After ordering product, they send you “payment” via a cashier’s check or money order that looks authentic and even has watermarks. NOTE: The cashier’s check or money order is usually thousands of dollars more than the amount due for products, and you are asked to send them the difference. If you receive one of those payments, do not attempt to cash it. They are fraudulent checks.

In fact, do not respond to any emails of this type. AdvoCare does not condone this type of deceptive activity and neither should you.

How to report an incident:

If you receive any communication of this type of scheme, please report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website at www.onguard online.gov or send a message to spam@uce.gov. You may also report it to your state Attorney General, using contact information at
www.naag.org.

Please be sure that everyone in your organization is aware of this fraudulent scheme.

Friends and family:

Thank you so much for your support of my son, Chris, in his weightlifting endeavors. As you know, he competed in the 2009 USA Weightlifting National Junior Championships in San Francisco on Saturday evening. I am happy to announce that he finished in 4th place nationally in his weight class, (out of 10 competitors) 21 years old and under.

In the SNATCH competition, Chris successfully made his 1st and 2nd lifts, but just missed setting a new personal best with his 3rd attempt. This left him in 5th place going into the CLEAN & JERK portion of the competition. Again he successfully made his 1st and 2nd lifts in the CLEAN & JERK, setting a new PR on his second lift. Chris had moved up to 4th place after this second lift as the competition was winding down with only 4 competitors remaining. Coach Jesse asked for the bar to be loaded to 165 kg (363 lbs.) for Chris' 3rd and final attempt in an effort to give him a chance at the 3rd place bronze medal. This amounted to roughly 13 pounds more than the new personal best that Chris had just lifted moments before. The weight proved to be too much as the lift was unsuccessful.

We are very happy with Chris' 4th place finish for the 2nd year in a row. There was a belated burst of jubilation when we witnessed Chris ascending the awards platform to accept the bronze medal for having the 3rd highest CLEAN & JERK total for the 94 kg weight class.

ATTACHED are photos of Chris making his 1st SNATCH lift and his 1st CLEAN & JERK lift. Thanks again for your messages of best wishes that I passed on to Chris before the competition.

I just want you to all know that two of our Jacksonville Advocare Weightlifters will be competing at the USA Weightlifting National Junior Championships / Junior World Qualifier this weekend in San Farncisco, CA. He will be facing tough competition and he will be competing for a spot on his first ever Junior World Team. AdvoCare wrestling endorsers Trent Paulson and Travis Paulson are training hard in preparation for the World Team Trials, which will be held in their hometown of Council Bluffs, Iowa, on May 30-31.

Travis was an All-American for Iowa State, and he placed third at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in freestyle at 74 kg/163 lbs.

Travis' and his twin brother Trent, who competes at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., are two of the favorites to make the 2009 U.S. World Team.
